1st Year Hockey

This week our 1 st year hockey team played two matches against Mount Sackville. Both games for very close with end to end play. DCW won the first game 3-2, with Iona Scott scoring all three goals. Well done to defender Lucie Byrne who played a blinder keeping the other team at bay. A special mention to Roisin Leonard who did fantastic work setting up the forwards in their play. The score in the second game was 1-0 to the opposition but well done to defenders Rebecca Waite, Tara O’Neill and to goalkeeper Sarah Griffin. Without their strong defence, the opposition could have led by so much more.

Musical

We would like to say a big thank you and well done to all of those involved in the school musical this year. It was a hugely successful event and this was down to the hard work and dedication of many people. A big thank you to the students firstly who worked so hard from the beginning of the school year to make this happen. To the main cast members, design team, backstage team, front of house and ticket sellers, well done!! A special mention to Ms. Murphy and Ms. McIntyre who helped pull the whole event together and work tirelessly every year to make it each show so spectacular. We would also like to thank many other teachers who volunteered to give up their time to help each evening. Looking forward to next year already!

6th Year Art Trip

This week our 6th year Art students had the opportunity to visit the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. Students got to experience the studio and work of Irish born artist Francis Bacon. This was an excellent art-led experience as of the Leaving Certificate Visual studies. Thank you to Ms Gaskin for organising.

Hospice Window

Our 5 th year Art students visited the Wicklow Hospice this week where they spent the day decorating and painting the windows with some beautiful Christmas themed art. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the community and hope that all who visit enjoy the display. A big thank you to Ms. Gaskin again for organising.

Senior Hockey

The senior hockey team played host to Loreto Bray on December 8th. It was an epic battle from start to finish with little to separate the two sides. All players were kept busy as the ball was played from end to end with both goalies playing their part too. The score remained 0-0 at the halftime whistle. The Dominican girls tried to up the tempo in the second half but were well matched again by the visitors. Just as it looked as if the game would remain a draw the centre forward for the Loreto team took a quick free outside the circle catching the Dominican defence off guard. A clean strike resulted in the only goal of the game. The Dominican girls put a huge amount of pressure on their opponents for the remainder of the match but were unable to find that elusive goal. However, it was a fantastic team performance and the girls should be very proud of their efforts. The final league match will take place after the Christmas holidays. This will be a home game against St Raphaela’s.

Cinema Day

Our 5th year LCVP class are organising a cinema day in school as part of their project work. The students have worked hard to pull this event together and it promises to be an enjoyable event. It is open to all year groups and we hope they come support and enjoy the film. All proceeds made will be donated to Focus Ireland.

It’s that wonderful time of the year again where preparations have begun for the annual Christmas carol concert. Both students and staff have been practising hard and it promises to be a wonderful festive event. This year we have decided to live stream the event so that it will be accessible to everyone. A link will be posted on both the parish website and the school website. People can log on and enjoy the festivities.
