1st / 2nd year Basketball
Dominican College Wicklow 1st & 2nd year basketball teams travelled to St Mary’s Arklow on Wednesday February 8th to take part in a schools basketball tournament. Our second years played
their first game against Wicklow Educate Together in a very exciting game. DCW got off to a very good start and came away with the victory. 2nd years played their second game against St. Marys
Arklow. This was a thrilling game with two very well-matched sides. DCW had an excellent team performance and came away with their second win of the day. Congratulations to all the second
years who participated on the day both supporting and playing. Hard luck to our 1st year team who lost to St. Marys. The DCW players displayed outstanding spirit & determination, we were very
proud of their debut performance. Thanks to Valerie Power of St. Marys Arklow for organising and hosting an excellent day of basketball.
Well Read Programme and Yellow Flag
As part of building on our Yellow Flag achievement as well as working towards our Well Read Award, TY students and members of the school Book Club, Mika Kelly and Mia Wynne have organised a
group of readers to work with Holy Rosary 5th and 6th Classes. The students will be reading aloud from ‘Why the moon travels’ by Oein DeBharduin. Starting on 2nd March the Dominican readers will
be reading stories aloud from this collection of tales Oein has gathered together. The stories are all rooted in the oral tradition of the Irish Traveller community. Mika, Mia and their team have been
reading through the collection in preparation, as they say the stories are “a fascinating collection and a reflection of life in general”.
