euro, the grand prize rolls over to next week. This is a fundraising initiative and the money raised will be used to directly support your children’s education and purchase resources for our school
including IT equipment, sports equipment, classroom and teaching resources.

GAA

A big week for GAA in DCW. Our 1st year team were at a blitz in Ballinakill on Tuesday. DCW came through with two big wins against St. Kevin’s Dunlavin and our local rivals CCM. It was a good game
throughout with DCW coming out on the winning side with some great scores from Anya McKenna, Meave Ledesma and Taylor Sherry. In their final game the students came up against a GCM side who
were the stronger side on the day. The team is looking forward to the finals blitz day later in the year.
Our Junior team had a brilliant victory against GCM in the Shield semi-final on Wednesday. In a hotly contested and highly skillful encounter DCW prevailed on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-8. There were
many strong contenders for player of the match with goalkeeper Isabelle Gray pulling off a number of quality saves. Abi Gray was not to be outdone by her sister as she slotted over a number of points
and a well taken goal. Amy Lalor and Hannah Quinn bossed the midfield battle, and were ably supported by our flying wingbacks Olivia Pennell and Lauren Beacom. The team are looking forward
to taking on their final opponents.

Wicklow Enterprise Competition

Best of luck to our Transition year students who are presenting DCW in the Wicklow County Enterprise Competition on Wednesday 1st March. Keelin Campbell Rawson, Rosie Armstrong, Lilly
O’Donoghue and Hannah Synnott started their business ‘STAMPED’ in October ’22 and have been working very hard towards this competition. They will display their product and business idea on the
day and also give a presentation to the judges. The event will take place in the Claremont campus in Rathnew on Wednesday. Best of luck on the day girls.

Fairtrade Fortnight

Thank you to Ms. Martin who is organising the running of Fairtrade Fortnight. This will run from the 27th of February to the 12 th of March. The idea is to try and encourage students and teachers to swap
to as many Fairtrade products as possible during these two weeks. Students will get to sample Fairtrade chocolate and other products. Fairtrade tea and coffee will be available in the staffroom
for teachers also. A poster competition will be running to celebrate this event with a first prize and two runners up prizes. We would ask for as much support and awareness as possible during these
two weeks so our school community can really realise the benefits of supporting fair trade products.

Dominicans Got Talent

Have you got what it takes? If you have any talents we want you!! Our TY students are organising this year’s DCW talent showcase and welcome anyone who wishes to apply. The audition forms can
be found on Schoolwise and forms must be returned and completed by the 1 st March. Additional information can be found on the audition forms. Auditions will take place on Wednesday the 8th of
March in Fatima Hall. All talents welcome (All poetry must be self-written).

6th Year Wellbeing Coffee Morning

Next week our 6th year students will get a bit of light relief from the usual school day in the form of a coffee morning. The 6th years will be getting their school photos taken in the morning and this will be
followed by a relaxing coffee morning. We believe life is about balance in DCW and the 6 th years have worked hard recently doing their mock examinations and so deserve some time out for wellbeing.

Spanish Film Trip

6 th year students are going to the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire to see the Spanish film Mediterraneo. The film recounts the true story of three Spanish lifeguards who travel to a Greek
island to help rescue refugees arriving by water. Then there will be time to visit Dun Laoghaire. Students will travel by train.

Ash Wednesday

To celebrate Ash Wednesday, Fr Donal Roche visited DCW on Wednesday morning to distribute ashes in Fatima Hall. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The Ember Leaders read a Lenten
reflection before the ashes were distributed. Later, the team read reflections over the intercom for the whole school. They also prepared a display on their noticeboard to explain the meaning of Lent,
and to encourage our school community to Pray, Fast and Give this Lenten season.
