St.Brigid’s Day

The 5th year Ember Leaders visited 1st year classes this week to celebrate St Brigid’s Day. They demonstrated how to make St Brigid’s crosses from reeds, and then held a workshop with the 1st
years as they made their own. The students really enjoyed learning about St Brigid and had great fun learning how to make the crosses.

5th Year Wellbeing Trip

On Wednesday 5 th years went on a Wellbeing Trip to Dublin, accompanied by Ms Gaskin, Ms Murphy, Ms Mason and Ms Doyle. There was a quick visit to Collins Barracks where they
enjoyed the permanent exhibition on Irish military history complete with uniforms and weapons. There was also an exhibit based on the Magdalen laundries. In the Curator’s
Choice section was an actual samurai outfit, with menacing headgear. A smaller group went to visit the Museum of Tenement Life at 14 Henrietta Street with Ms Murphy and Ms
Gaskin. The trip ended with time for shopping and dining in and around Henry Street, before the group met under the iconic clock at Clerys. A big thanks to Ferguson Buses. Well
done to the 5th year students who made the trip so memorable.

TY Photography

To conclude their eight-week photography module, the Transition Year students are taken on a trip to practice their newly acquired skills and techniques in a new setting. On January 31st the
students headed south to Wexford in search of some unique photo opportunities. It was a beautiful clear crisp day perfect for taking photos. The quay was the initial destination as students
took pictures of the train tracks, boats and seabirds. Next on the agenda was the Wexford Library, a truly magnificent building with its striking steel and glass structure. Throughout the rest of the
morning the students were to select photos with the aim of creating their personal visual story of their trip. Peter was on hand all day to give advice on lighting and angles so we look forward to some
very successful results. A really fun productive day was had by all and the students especially enjoyed the stop in McDonalds on the way home!

Minor Hockey

On January 24th the Minor hockey team played their final league fixture against Muckross Park School. Neither team had lost a match throughout the season but with more wins under their belt
Muckross headed the league table. The teams were evenly matched for the first quarter of the game with all play concentrated in the middle of the pitch. As half time approached Muckross upped the
tempo and the Dominican side were put under pressure. Led by super sweeper Tara Cull the defence remained strong and were relentless in clearing the ball from their circle. Well done to Zofia
Szwanda, Camille Allen and Eve White and Goalkeeper Baylee Neville. However, the opposition defence were equally up to the challenge and there was no way through for the Dominican attack
despite opportunities set up by the midfield players Alannah Delahunt, Tianne Kelly, and Lauren Beacom. Unfortunately, the only goal of the game was scored by the Muckross side from a well-
timed set piece. Despite the loss the Dominican team are to be commended for their determination and fighting spirit. We now look forward to lots of progress on the new Astro-turf pitch which will
help make the away fixtures less of a challenge for the Dominican players.

Junior GAA

We were delighted to have a massive turn out for the 2nd year blitz on Tuesday in Kilcoole. With a 30 strong squad, DCW played a strong St Marys outfit, narrowly losing by a point. They followed this
up with resounding wins over CCM and Woodbrook. Some great football was played on the day and this group of students showed great promise for the future. With such a large squad it was great to
get students a chance to get some game time.

Lion’s Club Table Quiz

Thank you to all who supported the Lion’s Club Table quiz that took place in Ernie’s Bar on Thursday 2nd Feb. It was run as part of a fundraising event for DCW and so we are very grateful to everyone
who came along to support. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to the winning team of Rachael Flood, Neal Martin, Emma Tyrrell and Simon Tyrrell.

girls!

LCVP Fundraiser

The 5th year LCVP students held their annual Cinema Day and raised €1215 for Focus Ireland. Every year, as part of their course requirements they must organise and run a successful event, the
proceeds of which they donate to a charity of their choice. The 5 th year students ran their Cinema Day in the lead-up to Christmas. Costings and budgets were drawn up and tickets were sold at
morning registration. Tickets cost €5 which included popcorn and a drink. The viewings took place in Fatima Hall on December 13th with three different sessions. This week, Grace Allen, from Focus
Ireland gave a talk about the important work that Focus Ireland does in Ireland. The LCVP students then presented Grace with the cheque.
